Education system in Nigeria: Good or Bad?

Looking at the education system one is forced to wonder is written examinations in Nigeria are a true test of knowledge. Nigeria students have developed a number of ways to cheat in an exam hall. Cheating has even evolved past the era of just carrying note books and text books into the hall but it has gone into the stage of actually reading, jotting and making reduced photocopy of the jotting and it does not even end there, it now also involves the use of sophisticated phones that come with internet facilities to actually surf and search the internet for answers to questions in the exam hall. One is now forced to wonder how the system became so bad. I think this problem actually has two sides to it. 1) Lecturers: This i think is one of the major problems of the Nigerian system. Some lecturers do not believe in coming to class when they are supposed to instead they fix classes when they so please to the discomfort of the student who cannot complain because of fear of victimisation, then they keep the students waiting till they come down from thier private businesses. This eat into the student reading time and what do you expect when he/she cannot finish reading all they are supposed to read? What about lectures that wait till they announce dates for exams before they start lectures or those that you cannot actually satisfy or still those who are baised or just wicked? 2) Students: There are students who actually wait till exam dates are announced before start reading and when they cannot finish thier courses resort to all kinds of malpratice to pass. I can go on apportioning blames here forever but that would not bring about a solution. So what is the solution because everybody in the society is in one way or the other involved in this menace eating deep into the fabric of our education? I might be biased with opinions so i am opening the floor for a debate, so we can brainstorm on the way forward for our educational system. So drop your comments. Eloh Curtbeth. Student.
