Mrs. Marilyn Bien-B0ngiad, a co- teacher of my m0m in our c0untry, surrendered 6.6 milli0n pes0s that had been mistakenly deposited into her automated teller machine(ATM) payroll on 25 May, 2002. The PVB Bank inadvertently deposited the substantial am0unt into the teacher's acc0unt. Marilyn was expecting to receive only 6,600 pesos in take-h0me pay for that m0nth. But when she checked her ATM acc0unt, she discovered it c0ntained m0re than six milli0n pesos. Instead of being tempted to take advantage of the error(for she badly needed the m0ney for her ailing child) Marilyn t0ok the advice of my M0m and decided to immediately take steps for its correcti0n and requested that the over-deposited am0unt be recovered fr0m her account as s0on as possible.
She reported it at the Department Of Educati0n Central Office.
In a society kn0wn to be infested with all types of cheats, cr0oks, swindlers, extorti0nists, and corrupt government officials, Marilyn's act of HONESTY shines like a beac0n of LIGHT that diffuses a bright ray of H0PE for so many people who have already bec0me frustrated with the way things are happing in our c0untry and your c0untry as a whole.
My M0m told me and i share it with you, Marilyn is quite an excepti0nal breed and she really makes a big difference am0ngst so many c0untrymen, young and old alike, learned as well as unlearned.
She has taught us a great m0ral less0n that is worth emulating and worth living: Our Dignity cann0t be b0uht with six milli0n pesos...
Despite the rampant practice of graft and corrupti0n in government and in the private sector, is n0t entirely Hopeless. As l0ng as there are still Honest pers0n, the world as a whole can l0ng endure and there is light at the end of the tunnel.
