Opium: Article 15 of the Indian constitution makes it illegal to discriminate based on caste and there have been numerous other government sponsored initiatives to try to curb the problem.
It has been almost a hundred years since then and yet after reading stories like this I am not sure how much progress has been made. Police officers are still often said to act slower, if at all, in cases involving
Dalits.
What was done to these young girls (14 & 15) is monstrous and inhumane, I can only hope that with pressure coming from above things will change for the better, I am skeptical however ... Lasting change comes from the ground up, not the other way around.
i agree. Not much progress at all. The woman who died after being gang raped on the bus is horrible. The under aged guy got 5 years i think. His 17. Thats not under aged. Thats a man. The rest got the death penalty. One actually asked for it... I understand mob justice . As cruel as mob justice is, its the only thing that works. India should go mob justice like South Africa.
