Why being so secretive? by AmouR 2014/03/11 15:35
Ahem! Hello folks!
2wap has undergone a massive change lately. It included hiding the staffs' list, making it impossible to know who is using tools over whom.. Everything under the rose? Awesome. This doesn't make any point, atlesst according to me because it's not helping 2wap gain any extra users or making 2wap a tad enjoyable. So why do this dumb-ass thing?

As most people know the staff list was visible for many years. During this time, it was always a source of keen interest about which members were on that list, with some users being more obsessed with it than others. It many times reached the point where every addition and removal from the list was analyzed to an unhealthy degree, with a number of regulars who would line-up to comment on the choices of the admin team and it would sometimes dominate forum discussion.

Eventually I felt that this is not what I want this site to be about, and we therefore decided a cultural shift was needed and the only way to achieve this was to make staff less prominent on the site. I think this choice has been largely effective - staff are still discussed occasionally, but there isn't the same intense focus on our staffing decisions or on staff themselves. Our staff are still subject to the same responsible judgement of myself and our other admin, and members are still just as able to complain about any action they see as wrong. It isn't such a big secret who are staff either - if you wanted you could send a support request every day and see who responds to gradually build up a picture of the team who are serving your needs here. /smiley

Well if you select mods or admins who have no contribution to the site. People are gonna talk about it. Every other forum has a recognition for its moderators. But you choose to hide yours cause you know a few of them aren't worth it.

If you look at the most successful chat sites, in most cases you have to look hard to find out who the staff are. However we may take into account feedback that expresses a wish for a visible list of staff contacts for our forums. This would not be in the same format as the original staff lists.

And my post is deleted.. Bravo staff.

Liam pets ass kissers. Since he is the de facto owner of this site he can do whatever he wishes to.. The site is already going down, punk. Stop doing such things at the earliest.

Yes, it's an excellent technical discussion forum, I use it myself for learning new coding techniques. I wonder how building reputation can be applied on non-technical forums.

I have no time for those who seek favour through flattery. Or those who are constantly vulgar and cynical either.

I deleted the post as staff members have as much right to be protected from insults as other members.

The other point being, despite so many advertizes of 2wapworld. No new members are keen to stay here.
If you haven't considered this. New members are more like to get badgered by Shout Box dramas. Just think about it. You sign up a chat / forum only to confront to some drama on the home page. Most sites don't have shout boxes and they do well. Instead of hiding the staff list. It would've better of without the shout box. I know there is a setting to turn it off. But most new guys won't know that. Or you can turn it off by default for new users instead of completely removing it. It's just my insight. I know a lot wont agree. /smiley

If i was staff at any such site and they did similar i would leave for that reason without a 2nd thought.....
like doing a good job and your boss saying oh thanks for all your time and hardwork but tough crap you'll be getting no recognition for it /smiley .
Just like volunteer police, our staff serve the site where required out of enjoyment of their role and for the satisfaction of helping make the community a better place, not for recognition or self-aggrandizement. But your feedback is appreciated that you feel the service provided by individual staff members should be celebrated.
