Myths About Smoking by TheMouse 2010/04/14 03:43
SMOKERS DIE OF LUNG CANCER ... Wrong. Most of those who die of smoking don't live long enough to die of lung cancer. Usually, death occurs through brain strokes or heart strokes. At the time of death, many of those diseased have developed the early stage of lung cancer but would have needed another six months to die of it. THERE ARE MANY THINGS AVAILABLE NOW TO HELP QUIT SMOKING, LIKE PATCHES ECT. Wrong. Nicotine patches, chewing gums ect are on the market because they make money. They don't help; quitting smoking starts with depletion of nicotine, best done at 'cold turkey' method within 72 hours. Peak of withdrawal symptoms has occurred during that time, the cell disorder of lungs start to reverse towards 'going back to normal' after that time, and withdrawal distress should completely subside after two weeks. Wearing patches ect however will usually keep the withdrawal stage going until the distressed smoker reverts back to smoking as before.

AFTER A LONG PERIOD OF NON SMOKING, LET'S SAY 10 YEARS, ONE CAN HAVE AN OCCASIONAL CIGARETTE. ... Wrong. The smoker can not smoke and be 'clean' for life, but the addiction will also remain for life. The situation for a clean ex-smoker is the same as for a dry alcoholic.

SMOKING IS A BAD HABIT. ... Wrong. Smoking is a drug addiction. ... CUTTING DOWN ON CIGARETTES (SMOKING LESS) HELPS TO LIVE HEALTHIER. ... Wrong. Cutting down triggers craving for nicotine because the usual level of nicotine is below the usual mark. The smoker will endure the stress for a short while and then continue smoking at the usual level. A health benefit from cutting down is impossible. ... THE FIRST CIGARETTE IN THE MORNING CLEARS THE THROAT. ... Wrong. The first cigarette in the morning smokes out the mucus which has built up in the windpipe above the lungs. The build up of the mucus is, however, due to the smoking itself.

After having been an addicted smoker for over thirty years, I came to the point where I had to make a decision ... A few weeks ago, I had fever and had to lie down for a while. Generally, it's my habit to be on walking excursions in the countryside for up to eight hours, it's what I know as normal life. But a change had occurred; getting rid of the fever and then being preoccupied with making money for a while, I hadn't been out there on my feet for a while, and now I noticed, first time ever, I could no longer breath enough to make it on an excursion. Walking up a hill in the village, in spite of still looking slim and healthy, I had begun to stop and rest, to get air. In the meantime, I can breath again, the last time I smoked was about 58 hours ago. During that time, my walking hasn't been well; I often could not walk a straight line through dizzyness, the light hurt my eyes ect - those complaints could have been fixed with smoking, as the withdrawal of nicotine after decades usually feels like an illness in itself. In a few days, I have to expect strong cough, gagging and bringing up mucus (how spell that word, damnit?) to start; but it won't be as bad as these first days have been. ... ... I WAS BORN IN THE 1960s. AS A BABY, I WAS IN ROOMS FILLED WITH CIGARETTE SMOKE. BY THE AGE OF ELEVEN, I HAD DEVELOPED A CRAVING TO STEAL CIGARETTES TO SMOKE THEM MYSELF. At 17, I WAS A FULLY ADDICTED SMOKER. I GREW UP IN A CULTURE WHICH DIDN'T SEE ANY HARM IN SMOKING. I BREATHED NICOTINE DAILY BEFORE I COULD EVEN TALK. TO BLAME MYSELF WOULD BE STUPID. TO BLAME 'THEM' WOULD ALSO BE STUPID. ... ... ... ... ... ... ... IT TOOK ME A FEW DECADES TO NEARLY SHUT MY BREATH DOWN. THE ONLY GOOD NEWS IS, IF I HAVEN'T GOT AN ILLNESS I DON'T YET KNOW ABOUT, IT WILL ONLY TAKE A FEW WEEKS TO CLEAR THE RESPIRATORY SYSTEM, AND ABOUT 7 YEARS TO RENEW ALL THE AFFECTED CELLS.

The general facts about diseases ect which I've posted here are from a book I downloaded; reading about the physical decline through smoking in detail helps me to get through the time of withdrawal.

That's a nice list U've got there; /smiley I personally doubt it tells people anything, however. I wanted to describe my own addiction in words everybody can grasp.

last christmas i was not well with all the vomiting and dizziness. I decided to quit the next day and i am free but i still have to battle for 7 years. Its not too late. I haven't smoked for almost 4 months. Smokers you can quit if you want. Its a matter of self discipline. Especially when you experience what the mouse told of himself.
