U.S. military combat dog Layka was shot four times by the enemy at point-blank range, while serving overseas in Afghanistan. It’s a true miracle this amazing hero is alive. There’s no doubt that because of her selfless nature and loyalty, her handler, Staff Sgt. Julian McDonald and his comrades are alive today. Despite the dog’s nearly terminal injuries, she miraculously still attacked and subdued the shooter, saving her handler and the other members of the team. Seven hours of surgery and the amputation of one of her legs saved her life. McDonald fought hard to adopt her and she’s now become a part of his family in her new forever home...
