Random topic feature by
NinthElement 2015/09/24 08:36
For your browsing enjoyment, you can now find a random topic link in each forum under the topics list which will take you to a random topic in that forum. This is a great way to explore our older topics without having to click through endless pages of the topic list. If the topic you land on isn't to your liking, simply refresh the page to get another one.
Smarty likes this feature, we hope you will too -king- Have fun!

It sounds harsh, but that's not the intent.
I said this for smarty bumping old topics, unfortunately I posted this in wrong thread. Tsk human error.

Fair enough There is though some corelation between Smarty and the random topic feature, as I wanted Smarty to break down any inhibitions posters might have about bumping old-but-gold topics. I know Smarty isn't discerning enough however so think we can scale it back to about twice a day now, and your suggestion about setting a minimum post count for Smarty bumped topics will be implemented...

Interesting view. So would you prefer if each topic were closed once it becomes old? And if so, what would your definition of old be?
The idea is that we have a lot of entertaining older topics that newer members may not have seen, and most posters are inclined to only browse the first two or three pages of each forum.
If a topic is closed, that won't be a topic you get using the random topic link. Perhaps as staff we need to work harder to close or delete topics that aren't suited to being revived.

not to close old topics. But as you say some old topics are worth bumping, but the AI doesn't differentiate which topics are worth. There could be defined parameters like a certain number of posts in a topics that defines it as a hot topic.
My previous post was for smarty bumping old topics,
And for the random topic feature. Which is a good one. I guess I posted in wrong thread.
