How to Make an Artificial Bird Nest by GhAyAl 2013/08/31 04:18
A tiny bird's nest full of pretty blue eggs adds just a hint of color and whimsy to your spring decor.

You can find nests like these in the wild, but bringing them inside might introduce insects into your home. Or, even worse, it may leave a small feathered friend homeless.
You should never disturb real eggs in a real nest, but if you want to incorporate the simple beauty of nature in your decor, a bird's nest might be just the thing.

Luckily, you can make your own using simple Spanish moss and a variety of small items gathered from your own backyard.

Step 2

Gather your pine needles, straw, Spanish moss and a few small sticks and place them in a plastic tub.

Step 3

Work the mixture with your hands into a ball about the size of a grapefruit. Gently press the center of the ball with your thumbs to make a circular indentation. Flatten the ball gently until it resembles a real bird's nest.

Step 4

Turn your nest upside down over your work surface and spray it gently with a coat of craft adhesive. Follow the instructions on the can for the proper drying time. Once the nest has dried, turn it over and lightly spray the top. This step will help to keep the nest together in one piece instead of dribbling bits of straw and moss around your home.

Step 5

Use the hot glue gun to affix the three robin's eggs inside the nest. Use the glue sparingly so it doesn't show.

Step 6

Display your hand-crafted bird's nest in a corner of your kitchen window, nestled among books on a shelf or even in a protected area on your front porch.

Warning

Exercise care when using hot glue in your projects. Keep children and animals away from the heated tip of the gun.
