Star-Nosed Mole by Xiao Zen 2013/08/15 14:32
The Star-nosed Mole (Scientific name: Condylura cristata) is a small, black-furred amphibious mole found in the wetlands of eastern Canada and the north-eastern United States.

Its most distinctive feature is a ring of 11 fleshy tentacles around each nostril forming a star pattern, hence the name "star-nosed mole".

They're practically blind so they use these tentacles to feel around, moving so fast they usually look like a blur. They also detect prey by sensing its electric signal with these tentacles and can also use them as an aid to smell underwater, something no other mammal on earth can do.

I think they're sorta cute in a way but apparently I'm blind ...
