poison dart frog. by Kumz 2013/08/12 11:12
Also known as the poison arrow frog because South American Indians used the potent toxin secreted from granular skin glands on the back of these frogs to poison darts used for hunting. The toxin helps protect the frog by producing noxious effects in the predator's mouth.

The toxin, however is not produced by the frog itself, but is taken through its diet and secreted through the frog's skin.

Mother nature has given the poison dart frog a way to protect themselves from their natural predators... (It's deforestation by the humans that they're not prepared for...) These frogs,
beautifully colored and seemingly harmless, secrete a very toxic substance from their skin.
