Belinda Carlisle by NinthElement 2013/07/02 21:22
Born August 17th 1958 in Hollywood, Los Angeles, Belinda Carlisle is just one day younger than another famous singer, Madonna. Following some experience as a back-up singer and a drummer, Belinda founded the Go-Gos with some of her friends. This all-female band were the Spice Girls of the early 1980s (albeit with a lot more attitude and musical prowess), blazing a trail for other girl groups to follow.

In 1986 Belinda became a solo artist, with the song Mad About You her first hit as a single. However it was her second album and its first single Heaven Is a Place on Earth that truly shot her to international stardom, with the song hitting number 1 in many countries and still being amongst those most strongly associated with her today. Several further successful albums followed each with its own style, her latest in 2007 being Voila!, a collection of French songs with a bonus CD featuring English versions (the mp3s for this album can be found somewhere in the downloads section).

Belinda is married to Morgan Mason, son of the actor James Mason and they have one son, James born in 1992. They as a family moved to France two years later and have also held residences in London and California, and Belinda continues to travel regularly for her work. A Buddhist, Belinda is a vegetarian and is a strong advocate of animal rights.
