"Women in Islam" by Musafir 2013/06/17 15:21
I know my topic is long, but if you will read it you will enjoy and your misconceptions will be cleared.

My friend just wrote " Beat them " and made topic to prove that Islam says to beat wife/wives and Islam is religion of violence :)

but he forgot that Musafir is still here to clear all contradictions he posted in his topic,

Top 10 Controversial verses of Quran

This is very first point he defined to prove Islam's provocative act with just writing "beat them" even he does'nt know translation of Arabic Ayat from chapter 4 words 34 sura nisa.

Let me clear his doubt. . .

The actuall word to which he is translating as " beat them" is "ADRIBU" in Al Quran when you read it to translate it in your way to prove Islam its "beat them" but,

the word ADRIBU also means to separate or move away as well as to beat. My only conclusion is given that the Qu’ran doesn’t contradict, the word ADRIBU in this particular verse 4:34 means that the husband should walk away from the situation. We have to remember that it is a
translation of the original arabic
source, and translations can be
made in many different ways.

If Muhammad (PBUH) strongly
frowned upon men beating women, then surely he is reinforcing the words of Allah given in the Qu’ran. I personally think as a result of this mistranslation, that a lot of men justify themselves to beat their wives whether mild, moderate or severely.

Here is the correct translation of the verse 4:34 and 4:35.

(4:34) [...]as for those women whose animosity or ill-will you have reason to fear, then leave them alone in bed, and then separate;
and if thereupon they pay you heed, do not seek a way against them. God is Most High, Great.

(4:35) And if ye fear a breach between them twain (the man and
the wife), appoint an arbiter from his folk and an arbiter from her folk.
If they desire amendment Allah will
make them of one mind.

now let's have a look on Al Qurans texts and know what Islam says actually about this matter

And among His Signs is this, that He
created for you mates from among
yourselves, that ye may dwell in
tranquility with them, and He has
put love and mercy between your
(hearts): verily in that are Signs for those who reflect. [30:21]

In the event of a family dispute, the
Qur’an exhorts the husband to treat
his wife kindly and not to overlook
her positive aspects:

O ye who believe! Ye are forbidden to inherit women against their will.

Nor should ye treat them with harshness, :) that ye may Take away part of the dower ye have given them,-except where they have
been guilty of open lewdness; on
the contrary live with them on a
footing of kindness and equity. If
ye take a dislike to them it may be that ye dislike a something that
Allah brings about through it a great
deal of good. [04:19]

Prophet Muhammad always was
against violence over women.

He never hit any female, and he used
to say that the best of men are those
who do not hit their wives. In one
hadith he expressed his extreme
repulsion from this behavior and said, “How does anyone of you beat his wife as he beats the stallion camel
and then embrace (sleep with)
her?” (Al-Bukhari, English Translation, vol. 8, Hadith 68, pp. 42-43)

There are several more Hatits which mentions respect over womens in Islam.

In Bukhari hadit itself

‘Whoever believes in Allah and the
Last Day should not harm his
neighbors. And I command you to
take good care of the women.’ (Bukhari)

In Sahi Muslim

‘A Muslim would neither abuse nor
speak bad words to, nor curse
others.’ (Sahih Muslim)

Even when women misbehave, tolerance and not violence is
recommended, as a way to solve the
problem. The Prophet (pbuh) said:

‘No believing man should hate a
believing woman, if he hates one of
her manners, he should be satisfied
with another.’

The Prophet also said: ‘The believers who have the best manners are
those who have the most perfect
faith.

The best amongst you are the
best towards thei wives.’ (Tirmidhi)
