It’s a good idea to clean laptops every so often to keep them looking nice and free from fingerprints and sticky keyboards. You’ll also remove any germs andbacteria that may be lingering onyour laptop keys. Computer keyboards are a breeding ground for germs, especially if it’s a shared computer. Here are some tips on keeping your laptop clean. Difficulty: Moderately Easy *. Laptop *. Wet Ones wipes or other disinfectant wipes *. Lint-free, non-abrasive cloth (such as an old cotton T-shirt) *. Keyboard vacuum or can of compressed air *. Cotton swabs *. Rubbing alcohol or CD cleaners

Instructions 1. Don’t eat or drink around your laptop. You don’t want to get the keys and mouse dirty or sticky with food. Liquid spills are very dangerous and can severely damage your laptop soavoid any open liquids near your laptop. 2. Take a damp (not dripping) lint free, non-abrasive cloth and wipe the outside of the laptop and the screen in a circular motion to remove any dust andfingerprints. Never spray any liquid on your LCD screen because it can completely mess up the resolution. You can purchase LCD screen cleaners from computer and office supply stores. Always put the cleaner onto the cloth and wring it out before wiping yourscreen.

3. Use a computer vacuum to clean in between your keys. Computer vacuums usually sell for under *10 and have several different attachments to help you to clean your computer better. You can attach the brush-like attachment to sweepup and dirt and dust stuck in between the keys, vents, and ports. The vacuum attachment can suck up any extra dirt left behind. If you don’t want to use a computer vacuum, you can use a can of compressed air. If you use the compressed air method, be careful not to spray into the vents or ports too hard.

4. Wipe your keyboard down with a Wet Ones or another disinfectant wipe to kill any germs. You can also use rubbing alcohol on a cloth. Don’t spray any cleaners on your keys. You don’t want any liquid getting in between the keys. You can use cotton swabs to clean around the edges of the screen and around the outer edges of the keyboard. 5. Keep your laptop inside of a laptop case when it’s not in use. This will keep a lot of dust from getting on (and inside of) it and it will also keep it safe from scratches.

Tips & Warnings *. Be sure your laptop is turned off before you clean it. *. Check your owner’s manual andsee if your laptop has specific cleaning instructions. If so, you may want to use the recommended cleaning instructions. *. When cleaning I/O ports, it’s best if you use the computer vacuum or cotton swabs. Using a compressed air can blow dirt or moisture into the ports.
