*if God does,nt exist* by jaQui 2012/10/17 16:21
If God doesn't
exist, how did
religion get
started?
Like the title
says, if God
does not exist,
how did the
idea of God or
any religion get
started? What is
a plausible
scenario for the
very first person
to invent this
idea of religion?
Put yourself in
some
prehistorical
guys shoes and
be the first one
in history to
start a religion.
What could be
your
motivations?
How did you
come up with
the idea?
If there is no
God, then there
had to be a first
person to start it
all, so what are
some current
theories about
this?
Thanks,

If there is GOD,then the person who is starting the religion for his/her GOD must have known him/her and If he/she had known the GOD then he/she would have put the information about GOD,IF NOT! then he/she is lying ...Because if there is hiding then there is also some LIES behind the scenes. I'd say rather be atheist than not knowing your own GOD!
Thank you.

ok how about this then? as we all know no1 has seen any of the god/gods that r believed in wot if the person that started these religions heard voices in their heads and since mental illness wasnt known about at that time he assumed it was a real person talking to them so they gave the voice in their head a name and spread the word so others believed wot they heard in other words the first ppl that spoke of god/gods well it cld of been a figment of their imagination

"Why do we have religion in the first place? Because we are pattern seeking mammals. It's part of our evolution. We look for patterns. We're designed to look for them. And, if we can't find a good explanation we'll come up with a bad one, rather than none at all. Most people would rather have a conspiracy theory than no theory. It's very observable that. There's a lot of junk science around before good science arrives. Before we have Astronomy we have Astrology. Before we have Chemistry we have Alchemy. All of these things are derivatives of religion. Because in a very sinister verse of the Bible that used to upset me when I was being forced to listen to it as a little boy it says : 'Seek and ye shall find'. Yes, that's exactly right! Seek and you will find. Seek for an explanation of volcanic eruptions when you're living in a primitive society and you will think that probably a visitation from an angry deity. And if you are told you can postpone the next eruption by throwing a few live babies into the lava, down the crater, that's what you'll do. Religion has just started. Religion has just begun."

For me God does exist! Or else i'l rily like these atheists to tell me: if tis true He dosn't exist, y then didn't ''religion' die in dos earliest years of man's existence when it must av started. The unseen force d@ hs made ''religion'' survive frm doz earliest yrs till dis day is one proof d@ there's God. Or hw cud a small group of ancient primitive men fool more than half of d world with jst sm belief they cooked up? Look @ d@ ''dead person'' see hw so bereaved there loved ones r? if they cud prevent death or give back life d@ bereaved family wud do so. But no one cn.. not even d so called scientist with all their knowledge; & who claim d@ humans r star dust cn bring a STOPPER TO DEATH. Death is a proof d@ there is a God. That's His Supremacy over all. D day scientists' abolish death, i'l believe there's no God. Eeem did i answer d question, sweetie /smiley

I guess because
prehistoric man
had access to
no knowledge
about the world
and could only
make sense of it
by inventing
gods.

If religion has survived under the patronage of god, then why didn't just one true religion survive? How do you explain the existence and survival of several different religions? Does it prove the existence of multiple gods?

If you ask me, existence of multiple religions, all of which have been at each others' throats throughout history, only goes to prove that either the gods these religions worship do not exist, or if one true god does exist, he/she doesn't care about any religion.

Quote: Fairyflexy: Or hw cud a small group of ancient primitive men fool more than half of d world with jst sm belief they cooked up?

I don't think it was a small group of people who fooled the rest. Jacki gave a beautiful answer to this question. Before there was science, superstition was the only way to make sense of the world. All it takes for a new religion to start is a bunch of people with a common set of superstitious beliefs.

Quote: Fairyflexy: Look @ d@ ''dead person'' see hw so bereaved there loved ones r? if they cud prevent death or give back life d@ bereaved family wud do so. That's His Supremacy over all. D day scientists' abolish death, i'l believe there's no God.

Over the last couple of centuries, medical science has more than doubled the average human life span. The day is not far when we might even "abolish death", so to speak. But will that prove god doesn't exist? No it wont. Death has absolutely nothing to do with the matter of god's existence. There are biological explanations for why people die and why dead people can't be brought back to life. Death doesn't in any way prove or disprove god's existence.

On the other hand, it would be so easy for god to prove it exists by making some famous dead people alive. The day Marilyn Monroe makes a new movie, I'll believe there's a god.

There's proof
everywhere that He
does exist! In the
balance of nature, in
the animals, in us!
It's a natural instinct
to believe in God,
we all have it. Notice
when there's a real
crisis and we think
we're going to die,
we automatically
call out to God for
help! It's so obvious!

My question to you
is this: What if you
found out there
was no God? How
would this change
you and your
outlook on life, if
at all? Note that by
answering this
question, you are not
in some way a
heretic or that you
are foresaking your
religion.

I don't believe in anything until I see it or I find any strong and alive evidence in the proof of it...Same thing with god,,,From my childhood I watched every religion,I loved hatimtai movie,I loved short films on jesus at christmas every year, and I loved thousands of books, serials, movies made on the incidents in hindu scriptures....But I always thought did they really happened,In some cases they were right but it doesn't prove their superiority over human boundaries,in some cases there were evidences of supernatural happenings but they still needs scientific attention...And I dnt want to be bigot,I still consider myself atheist cos I still ask myself about whatever I do,whatever my family does, whatever all the religious ppl do....Atleast I have the courage to ask questions to my fellow believers that whatever u do on the name of faith, can u prove it...If yes, then I'm with you!

And If I came to know that there is no God in which I believed,I shouldn't have any reason or proof to believe it And I'll be ready to face the truth cos I'M A FREE HUMAN BEING AND NOBODY CAN CONTROL MY THOUGHTS & BELIEVES
