Haldi - Curcuma longa, Zingiberaceae ( English - Turmeric ).. Chief Actions : Stimulant. Blood purifier. Antiseptic. Anti-viral. Wound healing agent. Carminative... Applications : (Internal) - 1. One tsp powdered turmeric taken thrice daily with warm water relieves flatulence and lost of appetite. 2. 10 to 20 ml of expressed juice may be taken daily in skin diseases, diabetes and jaundice. 3. One tsp of turmeric powder mixed in a large cup of warm milk should be taken for rapid healing of any type of injury or pain and even sore throats... (External) - 1. In sprains & bruises, a hot paste with lime juice and salt is applied. 2. In painful and protruding piles, an ointment made of turmeric powder with onions paste and warm linseed oil gives great relif. 3. Powder of turmeric when sprinkled on wounds/ulcers gives speedy healing. 4. In nasal blockage & coryza, fumes of turmeric powder over burnt charcol may be inhaled for prompt relief. This may be adopted even in common colds and sore throats. 5. In scorpion or snake bite, the bitten area is exposed to the fumes of turmeric powder for a few minutes to minimise toxicity. 6. Paste of turmeric powder and milk when applied on face or on other parts of body,(wash it with water after 15 minutes) gives an extra glow to the skin and helps in removing pimples and scars.
