Far as i know... You can send instant msgs via BlackBerry Messenger anywhere in the world. Using BlackBerry messenger u can Send and receive an unlimited number of messages worldwide for free with no per-message charge. But you will need a data plan to use BlackBerry Messenger. A BlackBerry internet plan is required to use its messenger.

Well , blackberry messenger uses pin messages to communicate. You have to have a blackberry data plan to send or recieve PIN messages.
