It was the tale of the century in may 1939, when lina medina made medical history as the world's youngest mother, till date, she still remain the youngest known mother in the world. Lina medina's parents thought their 5-year-old daughter had a huge abdominal tumour and when 'shaman' (local priest) in the remote village in peru's andes could find no cure, her father carried her to a hospital.

Over a month later, she gave birth to a boy. He was name gerardo after one of the doctors who attended medina and who later became their mentor. Medina was born on september on 27, 1933 in the small village of paurange. She was only 5 years old 8 months old at the birth of her child on mothers day, may 14, 1939.

Her son was born through a caesarian operation at full term at lima's maternity clinic. He was delivered by dr. Lozada and busalleu, operators,and dr colretta anesthesiologist. The boy weighing 2,700 grams was well formed in good health. Dr lozada took an x-ray of the child- mother and her son and thereafter established a diagnostic of the feutal situation. Observed the state of functionality of the little mothe who had begun mentruating at the age of 8 months,

After four years old, she had already developed breast as well as pubic hair, her body proportions were a bit amazing and her bone hardening a bit advanced, things that are often observed in cases of such premature pregnancy. After taunting from schoolmates, medina's son, gerardo discovered then he was 10 that the person he had grown up believing to be his sister was in fact his mother
