Any Android OS phone users here? by ANGEL_OF_DREAMZ 2010/10/21 18:57
It's just occured to me, that the smartphone section here is lacking an android section.

I would be willing to start a google android section, if there are enough members here, with a android smart phone (If any?)

I've got numerous apk files, hacks etc I could upload here, soon as my nexus 1 comes back from repair.

So please make your voice heard, if you'd like an Android software section.

I'm aware that in some parts of India, and other countries, that the Android market isn't available, so in this instance I can help by uploading the market.apk file, or simply upload program files here, say if someone wants the full paid version of apps, if you're unable to buy apps in your country.

I'm able to source certain apk files that help you root your android phone too (similar to jailbreaking iphone)

This of course, I accept no responsibility, if you brick your own phone, by not following exact instructions etc!

So, are there enough, if any, android phone users here, to warrant this new section?

Let me know in posts below.

Simon.

@smashing. It depends on what sort of a budget you're on, and if you're buying a phone simfree, or subsidized by network provider.

Even alot of budget android phones, from lg and zte are quite good, and can be rooted, and have the operator bloatware removed.. Also able to install apps that require root access. Also you'd be able to get upto date modded roms ported, and installed. Advantages being on the current android version which is 2.2 froyo.

If you go for anything by htc bro, like the desire, wildfire, etc, then they're the most hackable, and is more opensource. Whereas cheaper alternatives of android like the lg flavours , are more locked down. There's not even a software updater built in the phone, and can only be done via their update tool via computer.

Anything by htc, motorola, have ota (over the air) updates, so they'd be more ideal.

Lot depends on budget bro.

If you wanna know more, on hacking android, search online for respected android modder cyanogen /smiley you can see what devices he dedicates his time to lolz...

Hope this info helps with what device you go for.

thats a good question. Hadn't thought of that. /smiley what if files are in a zip archive, and uploaded that way? zip files are supported here no?

If not, maybe I can see if gum can make change to support apk. That or i'll just post link to my external box.net account?

hmmm, if i'm free to post the files as a link to my box.net account here, if it's okay rule wise, then I'd be prepared to do that as a work around, if putting apk files in a zip or rar file won't work /smiley

gum won't do that, gum hasn't added even mp4, why'd he add apk? Zip or posting a direct link would be most appropriate here /smiley
