After months, rather years, of speculation Google phone finally hit the shelves this week. In what can be termed, Internet giant's most ambitious launch, Google phone dubbed Nexus One aims to take on the mights of Nokia, Apple and Blackberry.

1-Googles not selling it alone.

Unlike Apple's iPhone, Google phone is not operator locked. Though the phone has the backing of the some major networks across the globe (TMobile, Verizon in US and Vodafone in UK).

Also, Google will reportedly handle all sales online and has no plans to let consumers check out the Nexus One in retail stores.

2-Sound proof.

Nexus One comes with a noise-reduction feature that cancels out background noise during phone calls.

The phone is currently available in the UK, Hong Kong and Singapore, apart from the US. Indian consumers may have to wait longer to be able to buy Nexus One.

3-Most advanced Android phone.

The phone runs on Android Mobile Technology Platform 2.1 software, the top version of the mobile operating system from Google. Nexus One is the first mobile phone to run on Android 2.1 OS. Also, the phone runs on 1Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor.

However, according to analysts it probably will be a long time before Nexus One can offer as many different tools as the iPhone, which boasts more than 100,000 applications compared with Android's 18,000.

4-Keeps itself clean.

Nexus One also knows how to keep itself clean. The phone has a teflon coated back which repels dust and some dirt which mobile phones encounter on a daily basis (when kept in pockets or on desks or tables).

5-Made in Taiwan.

Google designed the touch-screen phone in partnership with Taiwan's HTC Corp, which made the first Android-powered phone. The company is manufacturing Nexus One too.

6-Cheaper than iPhone.

Nexus One is priced at 529 USD, and can be unlocked from any GSM carrier. Google is also offering the phone for 179 USD, with a two-year contract from TMobile . Imported device will be available in Indian market, within a few weeks, through unofficial channel.

At 529 USD (Rs 24,330), the smartphone is cheaper than the Apples iPhone available at Rs 30,000. The iPhone 3G though not available as yet, will cost upwards of Rs 40,000, when its US price is converted in Indian rupees.

7-Offers voice-enabled keyboard.

Nexus One introduces a voice-enabled keyboard for all text fields. One can speak a text message, tweet, or update Facebook, or an email, via voice. It can also search Google, call contacts, or get driving directions by just speaking into the phone.

8-Joins Club 20.

The Nexus One joins about 20 other mobile devices that already run on Android, the mobile operating system that Google introduced in 2007.
